Bio
Radiohead is a British rock band formed in Oxfordshire, England in 1986.
Since its inception, the band has consisted of five members: Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, electronics), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass guitar, synthesisers) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion).
Radiohead released its first single, "Creep" in 1992, and its debut album, Pablo Honey, in 1993. While initially unsuccessful, "Creep" was a huge hit when reissued a year later.
Radiohead's popularity in the United Kingdom and beyond increased with their second album, The Bends (1995).
The band's dense, textured guitars and Thom Yorke's expressive falsetto singing were warmly received by critics and fans. Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), propelled the group to worldwide fame.
Featuring an expansive sound and themes of modern alienation, it has often been considered a landmark record of the 1990s by music critics.
The release of Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001) saw the peak of Radiohead's popularity, although both of those albums were met with divided critical opinion.
The 2000s then marked a change in Radiohead's musical style - experimental electronic music, Krautrock and jazz influences were all commonplace.
The band's sixth album, Hail to the Thief (2003), blended the styles from throughout their career, mixing guitar-driven rock, electronic influences and contemporary lyrics.
Radiohead subsequently left their record label, EMI and released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), via their own website as a digital download for which customers selected their own price.
