Fergie Opens Up About Dating, Addiction

Fergie in Blender Stacy Ferguson, a.k.a. Fergie, has been dating actor Josh Duhamel since 2004, but don’t look for a date for the wedding - or engagement, for that matter.

“We’re practically married, anyway,” she tells Blender magazine. “I’m madly in love with him. He understands how to treat a woman and give me respect.”

Fergie, the music magazine’s 2007 Woman of the Year, did have a big 2007, with her debut solo album, The Dutchess, among the top-selling records of the last 12 months (Daughtry sold the most), but she also suffered her share of indignities.

For instance, there was that moment she wet her pants onstage - a mishap captured in a rather graphic photo that was spread quickly across the Internet.

“I was late, so I didn’t go to the restroom before I went onstage,” Fergie, 32, explains. “It was horrible. But, whatever. It happened.”

Fergie, who won American Music and MTV Music awards in 2007, takes the same attitude with people knowing about her past drug abuse.

“It’s like there’s one or two things the public knows about every famous person,” the Black Eyed Peas member said. “With me, everyone knows I wet my pants on stage and had a crystal meth addiction. That sucks. But you have to laugh.”

Maroon 5, Fergie Top iTunes Sales Figures

Maroon 5 and Fergie hold the top spots on iTunes’ year-end sales roundup.

Maroon 5’s sophomore album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, led the iTunes sales list. The online music store released its top-selling albums and singles Tuesday, though it declined to release actual sales figures.

It Won’t Be Soon Before Long was the No. 1 seller on the site, followed by Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and Kanye West’s Graduation.

Amy Winehouse and Kanye West are also leaders heading into the 50th annual Grammy Awards - he has eight nominations, she has six.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5’s second album was iTunes’ top seller of 2007.

Rounding out the top five best-selling albums were American Idol alumnus Chris Daughtry’s band’s self-titled debut, Daughtry, and Coco by newcomer Colbie Caillat, who has the hit “Bubbly.”

Fergie came in at first and fifth place in single sales.

“Big Girls Don’t Cry” was the top-selling single of the year, while “Glamorous” finished in fifth. Gwen Stefani’s “The Sweet Escape” came in second, followed by Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” and Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.”

Britney, Beyonce, Fergie & Akon: Hot!

Well, in Britney’s case, at least in terms of Internet traffic!

As we all know by now, Britney Spears ascent to mega-fame went off the rails since she divorced aspiring rapper, spurring the bulk of her online notoriety.

For this reason alone, she was the most commonly searched for “musician” this year, narrowly beating out Beyonce, according to Yahoo!

Spears’ did release a new album, Blackout, but it looks like that will fail to go platinum, quite a departure from the Britney of years past. No, her search engine popularity is due solely to her train wreck status.

Perhaps Britney could have learned something from Fergie (#3), who suffered her personal life downfalls (crystal meth addiction) in relative obscurity first before hitting it big and hitting the confessional circuit later.

Here’s the full Yahoo! Top Ten:

  1. Britney Spears
  2. Beyonce Knowles
  3. Fergie
  4. Akon
  5. Avril Lavigne
  6. Hilary Duff
  7. Hannah Montana
  8. Shakira
  9. Chris Brown
  10. Ciara

Two men - Akon and Chris Brown - and one alter ego joined seven familiar starlets on the list. Hannah Montana, of course, is really Miley Cyrus.

Miley Cyrus does have her sizable Search presence (#23), but Hannah Montana hysteria proved far more relentless. That Hilary Duff sure is consistent, too, as is Avril Lavigne. You just can’t get rid of either one of those two!

As for Akon, he’s up for four Grammy Awards this year, which is about the number of times he’s gotten into legal trouble in the past 10 months.
