The Ultimate Cheesy Pop-Rock Ballad Playlist

You know you have a place in your heart for that lame-ass pop-rock ballad you’d never admit you love, but crank the radio up every time it comes on. It’s okay. We do it too. Entertainment Weekly has compiled a funny list of some of the all-time classic cheesy ballads. Here’s a sampling…

1. Journey, “Don’t Stop Believin’” - The most shameful part is that it’s on plenty of people’s playlists for inspiration and used by just about every TV series and movie looking to channel its inner cheese.

2. Peter Cetera, “Glory of Love” - From the Karate Kid II soundtrack. Holy crap, what a crappy, amazing, lovely, terrible, unforgettable song.

3. Goo Goo Dolls, “Iris” - The ’80s don’t have a monopoly on this list.

4. Tiffany, “Could’ve Been” - A hormonal, overly emotional teen song. Kleenex should pay Tiffany residual royalties from this one.

5. Madonna, “Crazy For You” - An office-rock / cubicle staple.

Journey

Great as Journey is, the cheese factor can be overwhelming.

6. Debbie Gibson, “Lost in Your Eyes” - We don’t even want to imagine how many girls picked this as their wedding song once upon a time.

7. Wilson Phillips, “Hold On” - Pure cheese, but with some great three-part harmony. Somebody kill us now!

8. Barry Manilow, “Mandy” - … Ohhhh Mandy, you came and you gave without taking… you know this song moves you. And you hate that fact.

9. Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram, “Somewhere Out There” - This there from An American Tail gets us choked up just recalling that wonderful children’s movie. Wait, was that out loud? Where’s the damn edit key…

10. Phil Collins, “Against All Odds” - What really beats the odds, if you ask us, is the longevity this piece of drivel has maintained.
